  5.           BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SOFTWARE

  8.              Page Financial Controller is an integrated  system  for
  9.           UK  businesses.  Single-user and multi-user modes are both
  10.           available (see pricing below). Each file may contain up to
  11.           two  million records. It performs the following functions:
  12.  
  13.                               Sales Ledger, and Statements.
  14.                               Invoicing, with Discounts.
  15.                               Purchase Ledger, with Remittances.
  16.                               Nominal Ledger, Cashbook, and VAT.
  17.                               Stock (Inventory) Control.
  18.                               Sales and Purchase Order Processing.
  19.                               Bill of Materials. Parts Explosion.
  20.                               Sales and Purchase Histories.
  21.                               Job Costing.
  22.                               Data Import and Export.

  24.                Page  Financial  Controller  runs  on IBM-PC compatible
  25.           computers with:
  26.                               640K RAM or more. [Versions up to v1.05: 512K]
  27.                               MS-DOS 2.00 or higher (for multi-user
  28.                               usage, a hardware network is required).
  29.                               Colour or monochrome monitor.
  30.                               Hard disk. [Versions up to v1.05: dual floppy]

  36.                The following files are  provided  with  the  shareware
  37.           version of Page Financial Controller.  If any of these files
  38.           are missing from  your  disk(s),  you  should  contact  your
  39.           shareware vendor.

  52.           INSTALLATION AND TUTORIAL
  53.           =========================

  55.                Firstly  COPY  the  supplied  disks.  Do  NOT  use  the
  56.           original  (master)  disks  for  anything.   Keep  them  safe
  57.           instead. Use the copies to work with.
  58.  
  59.                Secondly  PRINT  the  TUTORIAL.   This  includes  vital
  60.           information,  such as how to INSTALL the Page software.  You
  61.           cannot  run  Page  directly  from the installation disks (or
  62.           even from copies of them).  The software must first be  told
  63.           by the installation routine which hard disk it is using.
  64.  
  65.                Print the tutorial by 1) putting this disk in drive A:,
  66.           2) connecting your printer and switching it on with at least
  67.           52 sheets of 80-column (or wider) paper ready, and 3) at the
  68.           A>  prompt entering MANUAL.  Follow the instructions you are
  69.           given on the screen.

  71.                If you are printing with an HP-Laserjet  type  printer,
  72.           the  tutor will be printed with pretty boxes,  and with neat
  73.           margins of different size  on  either  side  of  the  paper,
  74.           suitable  for back-to-back photocopying and binding.  If you
  75.           have an Epson-type printer,  then the boxes will not  be  as
  76.           pretty.  Any  other  printer  will  not  give the margins on
  77.           either side of the 80-column paper.

  79.                Follow  the  instructions  in  the  tutorial.   It   is
  80.           ESSENTIAL  that  you  do  follow  the  tutorial  all the way
  81.           through.  Firstly,  it is  one  way  of  checking  that  the
  82.           software has reached you in good condition.  Secondly, there
  83.           are many operating instructions which are only dealt with in
  84.           detail in the tutorial.  The reference manual may deal  with
  85.           some  operating points only in the briefest way,  if at all.
  86.           So do  NOT  skip,  say,  the  Job  Costing  section  in  the
  87.           tutorial,  simply  because you do not use Job Costing.  This
  88.           section of the manual might, for example, describe in detail
  89.           some advanced aspect of printing spooled  reports  which  is
  90.           not covered in detail elsewhere.

  92.                After working your way through the tutorial, then print
  93.           the  Short  Manual  included  with this shareware version of
  94.           Page.  It will take 43 sheets of paper.  You print it  in  a
  95.           similar way to the tutorial (as described above).

  97.                Also TYPE any other README files included. For example,
  98.           README.112 tells you the improvements up to version V1.12.
  99.           REGISTRATION AND SUPPORT
  100.           ========================

  102.                Shareware is a method  of  software  distribution  that
  103.           lets  you  "try  before  you buy".  You have not bought this
  104.           software.  The shareware vendor from whom you obtained  this
  105.           software  has  only  charged you for the disks,  duplication
  106.           service, and postage and packing. The software was free.
  107.  
  108.                You have  not  paid  us  for  this  software.  We  have
  109.           received nothing from your shareware vendor. You are welcome
  110.           to  use the software for only the purposes of evaluating and
  111.           testing the system.  This  is  the  limit  of  the  software
  112.           licence  which we grant shareware users.  As soon as you are
  113.           using Page for your normal business purposes, you should pay
  114.           us a registration fee in order to  obtain  from  us  a  full
  115.           licence.  This  is  not  the  same as implying that you have
  116.           received anything less than the full  Page  system,  because
  117.           you  have.  There  are  no  parts missing from the shareware
  118.           version of Page.  It is a full and complete package.  As you
  119.           may have guessed, WE RELY MAINLY UPON YOUR HONESTY to pay us
  120.           a registration fee, when you use Page in everyday use.

  122.           Registration of the single-user version costs £199 plus VAT.
  123.           (Correct at time of writing,  prices are likely to increase
  124.           in the  future.  All business is  done subject to our terms
  125.           of trade,  copies of which are available upon request.)

  129.           1) The  latest version of  Page Financial Controller  (which
  130.           will be "compatible",  in other words you will  NOT  need to 
  131.           re-enter all your data).
  132.           2) A professionally printed manual.
  133.           3) A Disk Doctor program to help rescue corrupted files.
  134.           4) 90  days  access to  telephone or write-in support.  This
  135.           service offers you a reasonable amount of the type of advice
  136.           relating to the operation of  Page  software  which  can  be
  137.           given in writing or on the telephone.  It does not extend to
  138.           consultancy.

  140.           *** The Multi-User version is available for £399 plus VAT for
  141.               2-users
  142.           *** Each extra user costs £50 plus VAT up to a max of 63.

  144.           Also available is the Multi-Currency version of Page. This
  145.           costs £299 + VAT for the single user version and £499 + VAT
  146.           for a 2-user LAN version. Extra users cost £75 + VAT.

  148.           The Multi-Currency version has facilities to handle up to 20
  149.           different currencies and exchange rates. Exchange rate
  150.           fluctuations are handled accordingly, with reporting available
  151.           in each currency as required.

  189.           GETTING HELP AND SUGGESTING IMPROVEMENTS

  192.                If the  Page disks your  shareware vendor  has provided
  193.           seem to be damaged,  please  contact your  shareware vendor.
  194.           If you have find problems either installing Page, or getting
  195.           it running initially,  please contact  either your shareware
  196.           vendor, or Shareware Publishing on (0297) 24088. Either will
  197.           be happy to give you enough assistance to get you running in
  198.           order to evaluate Page.

  200.                You are welcome to write to  Page Consultants at the PO
  201.           Box number given above with any suggestions for improvements
  202.           to the Page software. All letters are read, and many changes
  203.           to Page have resulted from suggestions by users.  If you are
  204.           a registered Page user (i.e. have paid your registration fee
  205.           to become an official user)  then you can  equally make such
  206.           suggestions for improvements to your telephone support line.

  208.               PLEASE bear in mind that all the above companies,  Page
  209.           Consultants and Shareware Publishing
  210.           are just that - companies and neither user groups nor clubs.
  211.           If you approach them to  ask for their  professional advice,
  212.           you are doing the same as if you went to a solicitor,  or to
  213.           an accountant, or to a doctor in private practice.  There is
  214.           a presumption in English law that if you ask someone, who is
  215.           in the business of selling professional assistance, for that
  216.           professional assistance, then you are offering to pay for it
  217.           at the usual rate. If you want to ask for a little free help
  218.           then, for your own protection, ensure that you it make clear
  219.           that you are not a paying customer to avoid embarrassment.

  228.           described above.  The copyright is retained by the  authors,
  229.           and  the  rights  to  all intellectual property therein.  To
  230.           attempt to disassemble,  reverse-engineer,  or patch (alter)
  231.           the  software is a breach of any licence,  and may give rise
  232.           to legal redress.

  234.                NO  FURTHER  LICENCE  is  granted  to  users  than that
  235.           licence that is specifically granted below.

  237.                YOU  MAY  FREELY use this software to evaluate and test
  238.           PROVIDED you intend,  in good faith,  to become a registered
  239.           user  as  and  when you use the software in regular or real-
  240.           life use for over 90 days.
